Watch our new animated videos on the importance of CRVS systems

The Centre of Excellence is excited to share two new animated videos on the importance of CRVS systems for good governance, and for advancing gender equality and legal identity for all. We partnered with Data2X to create these short, informative videos to reach a range of audiences from development practitioners and government policymakers, to gender equality advocates and the general public.

CRVS systems are foundational for achieving legal identity for all – including women, children, and other vulnerable groups. And the data collected from a strong CRVS system provides governments with accurate population data which can lead to better planning and service delivery.

We hope these videos will help the CRVS community continue to raise awareness about the critical role CRVS systems play in meeting and monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals.

Boundless Potential

This animated video explains why CRVS systems are important for achieving gender equality. Recording vital life events such as birth, marriage, divorce, and death is imperative to protecting the rights of all people and ensuring they can participate fully in society. Yet it is estimated that 1 billion people worldwide have no proof of legal identity due to weak CRVS systems. A disproportionate amount of these people are women and girls.

Better Data for a Better World

This animated video explains why CRVS systems are important for ensuring legal identity for all and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Recording vital life events such as birth, marriage, divorce, and death provides governments with a complete data set of their population. CRVS systems lead to better legal protections for all, ensuring each person can participate fully in society. Choosing to invest in well-functioning CRVS systems today will lead to a better world for tomorrow.
