The Centre of Excellence is looking for a research award recipient to undertake research that analyzes gender gaps in civil registration, with a particular focus on marriage and death registration, which are critical tools for women’s empowerment, and for facilitating access to social benefits and protections. Research proposals may focus on global, regional, or country contexts.
The successful candidate will allocate 50% of his/her time for a research project under the guidance of the Senior Program Specialist or Senior Program Officer, and will be expected to present a research plan and provide progress updates throughout the year.
In the remaining 50% of his/her time, the research award recipient will contribute to the operations of the Centre of Excellence through a variety of tasks, which may include synthesizing and disseminating project outcomes and results; supporting monitoring and evaluation activities (including data entry); updating content on the Centre of Excellence website; supporting communication and learning activities; preparing internal and external reports; and providing other program support as needed.

Candidates should have the following qualifications:
- Strong research, communication, and analytical skills;
- An understanding of social and gender analysis;
- Experience in designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research, including work in the statistical collection, compilation, and analysis of data;
- Experience or knowledge of CRVS systems, particularly death registration, causes of death, and mortality statistics, would be a considerable asset;
- Familiarity with key organizations that have a clear mandate to support CRVS systems at the global or regional levels (e.g. United Nations Statistics Division, United Nations Children’s Fund, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, etc.); and
- Willingness to complete the CRVS eLearning course modules (mandatory if limited knowledge of CRVS systems).
